San Antonio, Texas — June 21, 2018 — San Antonio, Texas, based Living Slides (www.theliveslide.com) is pleased to announce the launch of an innovative new microscope slide, LiveSlide®, developed in San Antonio and proudly manufactured in the United States.
Designed by a science teacher for educators, the LiveSlide® is proving to have additional applications in the expansive world of science and microscopy including biological labs, research labs, medical labs and environmental testing. Never before has it been so easy to observe microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi and protists.
The LiveSlide® was created to improve the traditional and digital microscope experience when examining microorganisms of all types. The exceptional performance of the LiveSlide® offers higher magnification clarity, convenience, ease of handling and a uniform viewing well beyond what has been available in the microscopy world.
Made with Makrolon®, a reusable and durable substance, the distinguishing features of the LiveSlide® are the shallow and uniform viewing area, along with the partitions of the innovative configuration that keeps the specimens in the large viewing area.
Alex Diaz, the director of production at Swift and National Optics, says, “Having worked with all types of live specimen slides over the past 20 years, I’ve seen the development of some pretty impressive innovations. The LiveSlide® is one of the best I’ve used. Unlike simple dimple slides and other conventional well slides, the LiveSlide® offers exceptional clarity. Because of the shallow 0.23mm depth and the 0.013mm and 0.025mm thick cover slips, observations at 400x are extremely detailed. The Makrolon® slide and coverslips remain scratch free even after repeated use and cleaning. The partitioned well plate of the LiveSlide® makes both positioning and specimen tracking effortless. I can truly say that by using the LiveSlide®, I have seen and made observations with zooplankton that I have never seen before.”
Carol Espensen, president and founder of both Southern Science Supply and Living Slides, says, “It is important to me, even after leaving the public classroom, to continue to have a role in stimulating children’s affection for science and to provide new tools that make science fun for students and lifelong learners of all ages. To foster a curious spirit in our children is the single greatest gift we can give them.”
To build upon her already successful business selling digital microscopes through Southern Science Supply (www.southernsciencesupply.com), she decided to design and develop a new microscope slide that outperformed the competition and also propelled this important, yet rarely advanced science tool forward into contemporary times. Once the LiveSlide® proved to be beneficial, the unique features of this slide have led to a patent which is pending at this time.
